Cajun Food

Some gumbo is a good Cajun food.

I have eaten around the world, and I can honestly say that nothing comes close to Cajun food. Nothing. After you have tried this South Louisiana Cajun cooking, everything else seems rather boring. Cajun food is usually spicy (we love Cajun seasonings), and it is always cooked very slowly from scratch (or at least the best is). Let's talk about what makes this food so special.

Crawfish

A common thing to find in Cajun food is crawfish. They are extremely delicious, and you need to understand that they live everywhere in Louisiana. A lot of the land in the southern region of our state is used for crawfish farming, so we always have a supply to cook our Cajun dishes that rely on them. Some of the greatest Cajun food made with mudbugs (a silly Yankee term) includes: crawfish bread, crawfish pie, boiled crawfish, crawfish etouffee, crawfish casserole, and even crawfish enchiladas.

Shrimp

A lot of Cajun food is made with seafood, and shrimp is one seafood that is very plentiful in Louisiana. Since the Mississippi River dumps its silt into the Gulf Of Mexico in Louisiana water, this leads to an excellent environment for the shrimp. This also means that we have a steady supply of the shrimp from our shrimpers in places like Cameron, Louisiana. Some Cajun food that uses shrimp includes: gumbo, corn and shrimp soup, and shrimp etouffee.

Rice

There isn't a lot of Cajun food that doesn't include some rice in it. We eat rice with just about everything. A lot of the land that we raise crawfish on is also used for rice farming (see: Where Do Crawfish Live). With so much fresh water everywhere, a climate that is pretty much tropical, and a lot of very flat land, Louisiana is perfect for growing rice. Besides the Cajun food already listed, here are some others that have rice in them: boudin, red beand and rice, and dirty rice.
