Crawfish Festival

A box of crawfish looks good.

How can I convince you to travel to Louisiana to visit the Crawfish Festival? This is exactly what is going through my mind as I write this. Without sounding like a used car salesman, I have just got to tell you that this may be one of the most entertaining trips that you could ever go on. That is not an exaggeration, at all.

If you're still reading, maybe I have a sale. The crawfish festival is held every year in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. Breaux Bridge is called the Crawfish Capitol, and rightfully so. These Cajuns know everything there is to no about crawfish. They raise them in their rice fields. They catch them in the Atchafalaya which creeps right up to them. They probably have 2,001 recipes for cooking them. They are so good with crawfish that they have a dang festival in honor of the mud dwellers!

In 2008 the festival will be held on May 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. That means you have exactly three days this year to come down and have some fun. If you need specific information on the festival, please visit their official site by clicking HERE. The site is well worth the visit, and a good way to find out some neat facts about the Crawfish festival.

To give you a hint of what you will find there, here are some fun events at the festival:

  • a crawfish eating contest
  • Cajun dancing
  • Cajun cooking demonstration
  • dancing contests
  • crawfish races (this is the best!)
  • Cajun cooking competition
  • the naming of the festival queen
  • all of the bugs that you could possibly eat!

It really is a blast! As a closing sales pitch, let me just tell you that many documentaries of the festival have been made, and it has been listed as one of the country's top ten food festivals by the USA Today. In my opinion, and many others, it is number 1!

P.S. If you enjoy Mardi Gras, you will love the crawfish festival.
