Do you like trivia? I do too, even though I never win those games. Here are some fun crawfish trivia facts that I have come up with. If you have a few to add, will you email them to me?
Crawfish trivia:
- They are found on every single continent except for Africa and Antarctica (of course).
- Yankees don't know what to call them, so they call them crayfish.
- Out of hundreds of species, the Red Swamp species is most commonly farmed in Louisiana.
- About 60% of all production come from rice fields.
- We export more to Sweden than any other country! Weird huh?
- A man by the name of Chris Hendrix ate 331 of them in 12 minutes for the world record! He must have Cajun in him.
- There are 330 species in North America alone.
- Madagascar has one species.
- They make sudden, wild movements to get out of their hard shell when moulting.
- They became popular in COMMUNIST China in the 1990's.
- If you keep one as a crawfish pet, you better plug any holes in the lid. They love to escape!
- They can suffer from plaque, just like us, but their plaque comes from a water mold.
