NAMES FOR CRAWFISH

Lord, I never knew that there were so many crazy names for crawfish until recently! I always thought that everyone called them "crawfish", and then I found out that Yankees call them crayfish. Then I learned that some Texas folks call them mud bugs. I sure thought that this would be the end of it, but now I know that people have come up with all sorts of strange names for crawfish!

If I was to make up some crawfish names, they would probably be something like: red mud devils, yum yums, tiny lobsters, or something of the sort. Trust me folks, I did not make the following up! Here is a list of all the weird crawfish names I have recently discovered. If you have some to add, please let me know. Sometimes the truth really is stranger than fiction!

Mudbugs, Crayfish, Crawdads, Yabbies, Lobster, Crawfish (shouldn't this one be the correct one?), Crawcrab, Crabs, Bugs, Ditchbug, Nipper, Raki, Rak, Panzerkrebs, Krebs, Ecrevisse, Langouste, Langoustine, Homard, Cangrejos, Cangrejo de rio, Camaron, Shaitanbalyk, Shaitanbalyk, , Astaci, Lagostas, Zarigani, Koura, Acocil, Chraebs, Crawdaddy, Crowfish, Cray, Crays, Freshwater Lobster, Freshwater Crab, Mud Puppy, Spoondogs, Craws, Crawlfish, Ditchbug, Grave Diggers, Kharchag, Kreef, Rivierkreeften!
